Helmet vs No helmet ----medical issues no debate.
Ok, let me outline this conversation first based on the sensativity of the conversation.
Not looking for a debate, or why, or how unsafe etc...
That being said, I do not wear a helmet. Why? Ive always liked the wind in my face, the bugs hitting me in the head, and i can hear. It seems as though bike wrecks are hitting closer and closer to me as my friends are dropping like flies. I cannot wear hats or anything because they give me migrains. I suffer from chronic migrains and riding the bike is one pill that i can take that helps me get rid of it. Is there anyone out there in this community that has made that transition from not wearing one, due primarily to the above or something similar that has started wearing one that didnt give them a migraine? What about hearing? This is a defensive riding that i have grown accustomed to. i like being able to hear stuff. Vision...how did it affect your vision etc.. I dont want to go spending bookoo bucks on a helmet for it to be uncomfortable and it become a dust collector.

I have been tru a few half helmets and all of them have done the same to me. I used to not wear one when i had the chance to at rallies and such. I also started having 2nd thoughts and seeing too many people go down without it causing some bad head trauma. I read some reviews on a new helmet called the Pit Boss made by Bell. I went to the local dealer and found it on the shelf and tried it on. The are really nice and have a adjustable rear back of the head strap that you can adjust to your liking. I have to say I just started wearing it this year (got it for xmas) and it is the best one I ever had. Check it out if you can before u buy one. You can find them online a little cheaper than the list price. It also has a cool sun visor built into the lid which is a nice feature when u get caught in the rain.

Why would you not be able to hear with a helmet on?
With a good full face and earplugs in, I can hear everything just fine.
What about vision?
Full face helmets have wide eye ports that (on my Arai at least) are outside of my peripheral vision. Wider than the view with my Wiley-X glasses too.
The most important thing is the fit, and it sounds like you've got a narrow head. Arai ain't cheap, but they'll work for you.

Im going to try typing in dealers around my area. but i grew up here and i dont honestly know of any dealers for helmets in and or around here.
Some places i dont travel like big cities, and for a helmet i wont buy until i have tried it on and see if its comfortable.
Have you had any side affects from wearing the helmet?

No offense, but you really think that a thin shell of fiberglass is going to keep you from being able to hear?
I've got decades of damage from loud guns, music, cars, and bikes. My ears ring constantly. I hear better with the FF on than I do with a half helmet.

Helmets don't limit your vision or prevent you from hearing IF FITTED PROPERLY! Probably just the opposite, because of limited wind noise. You might want to try on as many different brand helmets as you can find one that is the most contoured to your head. While I personally don't like full face helmets, I'll wear a 3/4 with com set when the wife is with me or weather conditions dictate. Other times my 1/2. Extended highway calls for my 3/4 also, to cut down on wind noise AND it has a full face shield. A helmet is just another tool you can use.

I have ridden with and without a full face. The field of vision is like 05train said, beyond your peripheral so that is hardly a concern. Hearing is better i find with the helmet, I just wear earplugs to kill the wind noise. Revzilla has great info on the fitments of helmets and if you can't find something local, they have a great return policy. Good luck to you, once you're used to something, it's hard to change.
