Default 5th gear to remove clutch? working on it right now

why dose the Manuel say to put the bike in 5th gear before starting the process of removing the clutch?

do I need to do that? i have it in neutral right now and already have the shifter leaver off. can do it in neutral?

So it won't turn. 5th gear has the least amount of leverage compared to the other gears. (Presuming the wheel is on the ground).
