Trade My Fxdc for a Sportster
At the end of last year I bought a fxdc. The bike was new and I only put a few hundred miles on it so far. I wanted a sportster and was convinced by the salesmen and others that I should get the bigger bike, I would out grow the sportster quickly and would regret the purchase. Instead I am regretting the dyna and have been seriously considering trading it in for a sportster. I know I'll get hammered on the trade in but the sportster is calling me. I have listed it for sale but have only got low ball offers.

I don't know why i always desire to own a bagger with the truth being i don't tour, the wife doesn't even like riding period. Amazing most nearly new Sportsters can be had on the private market for under 5k. I spent $4500 and i got about $2500 in numerous mods. Thats still about 3k under what i'd of paid for an off the floor Sportster now and in 2006. I sometimes wish i had a 1200 or even the 103 but it takes me no time at all to go from 0-70 on my 883 solo or two up. I can ride hours on end with my Progressives and not suffer any butt pain whatsoever.
What i love most is there isn't a single Sportster on the road like mine. Its as easy as a lawnmower to work on basically for anybody that has any mechanical skill at all and i get over 50 mpg. So even if i put $4500 in mods total i will be under 10k and be far superior to any Dyna off the show room floor. I can walk my Sporty around the garage about as easy as a bicycle and store it with very little space beside our two cages.
Its kinda cool knowing what i ride made Harley Davidson what it is today and is why the Sportster is the best selling HD in the world. This winter i'm getting custom paint with no HD logo. Every year brings new mods . Ride what you love most.

Just list the FXDC on Craig's List for X-amount "or trade for Sportster". You'll get all kinds of offers from Sporty owners that want to make that upgrade. Plus if you work it out as a swap, you probably won't get taxed on it. Here in CA we can swap vehicles and avoid the state sales tax.

I would love to keep the dyna but the wife will stab me if I get another bike before she gets a new house, she showed me the knife. I want to like the dyna it's a good looking bike, rides nice but the sportster keeps on calling

I have nothing against Sportsters, even wanted a Nightster when it came out. But at 5'11" and 210 lbs, it looked tiny under me. And I'm in the crowd that believes you'd be foolish to trade down to a Sporty.
A lot of people love their Sportsters, but they are a different breed. And if you're a good sized fella, you'll "outgrow" that Sportster pretty fast and wish you would have kept the Dyna.
