base gasket weeping on New Softtail Slim..
I noticed that my rear cylinder base gasket is weeping. I just had my 1000 mile service done by my local certified Harley mechanic. Prior to that I noticed the weeping. I called the Dealer and am gonna take it in on monday. My warranty will cover it I'm sure. I really hope that they fix it and it is not gonna be a reoccuring problem. Has anyone here had an issue similar to mine (low mileage, base gasket weeping)? If so, what was the outcome?
Thanks,
JPrez.

It is most likely just the asembly lube that weeps off the base gaskets on the new bikes. Haven't seen one leaking. they all seep when new, just wash it off with brakekleen and it will just go away.

Good to know. Mine has a little bit at the base of the cylinders too. 1500 miles. I'll wash it and keep an eye on it.

It may take a few hundred or few thousand miles to evaporate all the oil. But unless there's another problem, it will clear up on its own.
I would caution using any strong cleaner as it tends to loosen the paint as well.

Thanks for the replies. I appreciate it. I will take it in anyhow since I have to skip town for a week and make sure that it is all good. Will keep you guys posted.

Fairly common, mine started doing this at 10k. Dealer basically said bring it in if it starts to puddle.

I have a 1991 FXLR that sat in the garage for over 13 years and never moved it. Then I dusted it off and started riding it again but back then the Base Gasket from Harley is nothing but Paper, so it was old. I had The Dealer replace mine. But 7500 miles later it started weeping and was getting worse.
So me having been trained as a Mechanic by the US Army I though I'll Re-Torque that Rear Cylinder, Rear Left Side Head Bolt to Specs. I removed it and cleaned off the Rust and then I used ACF-050 on it, it's used on Military Carrier Aircraft to keep rust off the aircraft, a little makes torquing bolts so easy.
So now.... No more Weeping..... At All....!!!
I used New James Gaskets in the Build and they are not suppose to let this happen.
Anyway it want hurt one bit if you Re-Torque to Specs.
