Default Oil pressure question from a non mechanical guy

My 2012 Electra Glide Classic with a true duals and a heavy breather is running at about 60 psi oil pressure at cruising speeds. It also has more carbon build up and some times smokes out of the left pipe. Does anyone know what this could mean?

60 PSI sounds mighty high for these motors, mine rarely if ever goes over 35.
I think you should have the pump looked at, although I am not positive what pressure the baggers run at, I can't imagine it would be double what a Dyna runs.

What color smoke, black is usually indicative of overly rich fuel mixture and blue smoke is oil going through the engine and out the exhaust. Should really have a tech look at that thing.

iv got a 13 street glide with the 103 and my oil pressure runs 35-37 most of the time. Maybe your gauge is off?

You should be what redstreetglide says since the relief spring is around there. It also should drop back to around 12 at idle so the cooling oil injectors are not spraying oil at the base of the cylinders at idle. They will overwhelm the cylinders and actually run up the oil temperature since there is no air flow. Either your gage is off or your relief spring is stuck. If someone had it before you, they could have installed a heavy spring.. Always people thinking more is better..especially when you compare a car to a Harley. However, they do not understand the engineering of this design.

For your reference:

Oil pressure on my '12 Heritage is 34-36 psi at cruising speed and drops to 20-22 psi at idle.

Although totally different animals, my EVOs run at those numbers as well. 60 psi sounds very high.

Interesting on the idle oil pressure posted on here. The following is in my service manuals for 2004,2008 and 2010

A passage connects to a pressure relief valve mounted
in the bypass port of the cam support plate. When the oil
pressure exceeds the setting of the valve spring (35 PSI), the
orifice opens to bypass excess oil back to the feed side of
the pump.

The piston jets , which receive a supply of oil from the
intake lifter bores, spray the underside of the piston for cooling
of the piston crown and skirt area. A check valve in each jet
opens only when the oil pressure reaches 12-18 PSI, at which point the engine is operating above idle
speed. At idle speeds ( 9-12 PSI ), the orifice
remains closed to prevent over oiling and to ensure proper
system operating pressure.

Way to high. Hope it's a bad sending unit/gauge.

I have the same bike with same set up. 12 Ultra classic, true duels, big sucker air cleaner. On start up its a little high, about 50, but then goes down to 35 when riding and 12 at idle. If its running 60 ALL the time I would have it checked out.
