Change or wait
Dealer completed 5k checkup and oil change on my 14 Street Glide about 800 miles ago. Filled with Syn 3 in engine and primary. Redline in trans.
Since then, the HD dealer started to stock Amsoil products. I am getting ready this weekend to take a 4k+ trip to New England. Question. Should I switch to Amsoil now or wait until I return from the trip? Are there really any benefits of Amsoil over Syn3? I have not seen any recent discussion on these two oils. Amsoil must be ok for my bike or the dealer would not be offering it to his customers. What do you think?

Dealer is interested in the bottom line; not people's bikes.
Here's a good rule of thumb: Never change anything in your vehicle before a long trip, as long as it's currently working fine. And, as far as oils--they're all the same. Mostly psychological I think. I use all Harley stuff, & my bike works just fine.

If you do make any changes, always make sure to do a short "shake down" run, just to make sure everything is running as it should.
Last thing you want, is starting out on the first day of a long vacation run and find out your bike has issues.
I wouldn't change the oil with only 800 miles on it, no matter what brand it was.

You will not even be able to tell the difference between them.
Most of the "best oil" stuff is all in your own piece of mind.
If your happy with your choice, then you will always feel your bike is running at its best.

I read many years ago that a large percentage of highway break downs are directly related to the last person that worked on the vehicle.
That is why it is best not to have your vehicle serviced just before you take off on a long trip.
It is best to have it serviced well before or wait until you return.

One advantage of running MoCo lubricants in your bike is that you can have them changed at any Harley dealership when you're out on the road. I ran Syn3 in all three for my Road King's first 52K miles and had no problems.
