Fuel line question

Fuel line question
A few years ago I got caught with a pinhole in the pressurized fuel line in my tank. Luckily the dealer in Duluth diagnosed it over the phone and had it fixed within 24 hours. Fast forward to today.
I've pulled the fuel pump and had the tank repainted. I checked the fuel line and noticed that it's wearing again. Sooner or later I'll have a repeat performance of the pinhole.
I have replaced the fuel filter which has the same hose as the fuel pump although shorter. I was thinking of splitting this hose and wrapping it around the fuel pump hose as a wear surface.
Has anyone done this? is there any reason I shouldn't do it.
