With lots of dealers close by, simply go to the closest one and tell them what you wish to buy, and have them make you an offer. Thank them for their time, and go to another dealership and see what they can do for you. Maybe check out one or more in addition.

Armed with this information, you can either accept one of their offers, or perhaps make a counter offer on your own.

This way you will get the bike you want, and have a competitive price.

Make sure they quote you an "out the door price" will all taxes and fees included.

Gives each dealer the chance to earn your business, and you get a pretty good education at the same time.

And be sure to ask for a free 1K maintenance. Most people get it when they ask. Most NADA sites will give you a full MSRP price for new. Harleys web site use to . And act like you are going to finance with them and do not drive up in a 70K car. Acting like you have it in you saving account will guarantee 4K above book if you do not know what book is.

"And be sure to ask for a free 1000K maintenance. Most people get it when they ask." Ripsaw.

Very good to know.

Go in with the attitude that some folks will think you got ripped off and some will think you got a good deal. Bottom line is if you're happy with what you paid for the bike then that's that.

Have them throw in a couple of helmets or riding gear. Doesn't hurt to ask.

Best of luck.

Two things:

1. If you get a 2014 or eventually, 2015 model, expect to pay full price. Most dealers are more willing to give steep discounts on last years models.

2. If you think you are getting a good deal then go for it.

Counter offer always. Start around $1000 under MSRP or so. Insist on $300-400 worth of parts and/or upgrades for free and 20% off anything above that. Try and get labor thrown in for free. That probably won't happen but it's worth a try. Often times you can get all this stuff if you buy during the right time of the year. This is NOT the right time of year...

Sounds stupid to say but if you feel happy with the deal then whatever the cost it really does not matter

I agree with getting the first service done free, also ask for discount off parts and service - they might agree for say 90 days. Ask for a dealer T shirt, key ring, kickstand disc for parking in sand, cleaning kit and leather conditioner. T shirt for the wife. Some dealers give you a gift card if you refer a friend who buys a bike.
