EPA encroaching on dealers?
A friend of mine recently purchased a new 2014 Softail from a Denver dealer. After a few weeks he want back to have stage 1 AC and pipes, he requested V&H pipes and was told that they are not EPA compliant and they wouldn't install them. In fact they said they will not do anything that isn't EPA compliant, no non EPA tunes, no SESPT only the Street tuner, only EPA exhaust etc. My question is, has this dealer been singled out by the EPA or is this going to be the story on all HD dealers. If it's just them they're cutting their own throat.

Technically, by statute, it is against the law for ANYONE to alter, remove or render inoperative, any emission control device and it has been for years.

Probably not. The EPA does not typically go after small fish, they leave that to the states. Colorado probably has statutes based on Federal Law and it's possible that someone got nailed somewhere and everyone else heard about it.

I have no knowledge relative to your post but it always astonished me that you can walk into a Harley dealer and pay them to disable all the EPA stuff. Can you imagine asking a GM dealer to do the same?
Maybe MCs have a lower milage / impact so they are not on EPA’s target ?

That's usually how it happens/starts ... you're correct "dribble"

All dealers in ca have been given the same restrictions, a local service manager said violations would be steep fines for the dealers, so there ya go!

Ca dealers have big signs in the service area advising customers they cannot and will not mod anything that does not comply with CARB .
Just DIY when installing pipes, air cleaner and tune. No smog checks on bikes, yet.

And this is exactly why you should never return to a dealer after you purchased your bike. After you get your HD bike forget dealers, forget SE, do what you gotta do in your own and you'll be OK.
