Thumbs up Scavenger oil change system

I just changed my oil on my 08 roadking with the scavenger complete oil change system
all in all it works as advertised just be sure you tighten the puck up enough or a mess will result, my bad but it still worked oil is clean all through the motor
was worried because I have a JEGS oil cooler setup on my bike but that shouldn't be a problem,
so all i can say is a non mechanic like me can do it,anyone can!!!

I have read plenty of mixed reviews on the system but can't justify it myself. Bikes have been running fine without for a long time. Hope you like it. I can imagine feeling better about getting all the oil out but again, plenty of mixed reviews. Just so long as you are happy Enjoy!!!

I've been using the scavenging system on my Heritage since I bought it. I get a quart of dirty oil out of my motor by using it.

A 'regular' oil change is 3 quarts. A scavenged oil change is 4. If you want to leave an entire quart, or 25 percent, of dirty oil in your motor, that's your choice.

I ride the bike at least 10-15 miles to warm it up, pull into the garage, pull the drain plug and oil filter, then go do something else for a while. Come back, put in plug (with new O ring), install new filter, put in four quarts of oil. Run it for a couple minutes to circulate the new oil and check for leaks. That brings the oil level to just under the full-hot mark on the stick.

Of course, that probably leaves a few ounces of old oil in the motor, but I got 130,000 miles out of my last Roadglide without any internal motor work, 120,000 on the FXR before that. Both still running strong when I sold them. Done it that way for the last 30+ years, six Harleys and 400,000 miles. Good enough for me.

If you just leave the filter off with a cut bottle for a drain , run engine with new oil until it come's out clean, it works the same .

btw no where near a quart lost.
but to each his own ( plastic bottle is a lot cheaper)

That's a great tip. Thanks.

Harley actually has a nice filter drain that slips under the filter housing, but I never thought to run the bike with the filter off until the fresh oil came out.

Doing that only purges the short run from the tank to to filter, but not downstream of the filter, but more important you have no oil pressure to the crucial parts of the motor while doing that.

when i change my oil, i change it into a graduated bucket. i get 3.5 quarts out. i put 3.5 qts back in. how is that leaving 25% 'old' oil in there?
