What a great day!!
My 14 year old son asked me to take him for his 1st motorcycle ride today. I hoped this day would come but it has been a long slow rode. My sons school bus was involved in a accident several years back involving a motorcycle fatality. The driver of the bike was intoxicated and t boned the school bus at about 50mph the police estimated, right where my son was sitting. He was physically ok but mentally he was a mess. We had a few years of him having nightmares, not wanting to ride the bus etc. I actually stopped riding for 2 years because he was so afraid I would get hurt. As time went on he was ok with me riding again, but I never pressured him to go for a ride he always said when I am ready I will let you know.
I guess today was the day. He wanted to go just for a short ride so I borrowed my buddys wifes full face helmet and off we went. Our short little ride ended up being 125 miles lol. He loved it smiling from ear to ear. He cant wait to go back on. So since he loves it we went out and bought him a nice shoei full face helmet, gloves and i got him a Vanson mesh jacket. It was truly a great day for him and even a better day for me.

Awesome - congrats! It's good that you had the patience & understanding to let him "heal". My old man would have had my *** right back on that bus the next day. And getting all emotional over the drunken moron who crashed into it would have been completely out of the question. Good for you. I'm glad it all worked out.

Great to hear he's doing better after seeing the wreck. I can only hope I'd be that strong mentally.

That's really great to hear, those moments will last a lifetime in memories.
My daughter rode with me for years before she grew up and went to college, she still talks about the "good ole days" when we would just hit the road and ride for hours.
