Default Symptoms of a loose compensator nut???

OK guys did a search and couldn't find any definitive symptoms for a loose compensator nut. So if the compensator nut is loose, what kind of noises or anything else would a loose nut cause.
The reason I ask is today for the first time while at idle in neutral waiting at a light I shifted from neutral to first but forgot to pull the clutch lever in.!

So I was wondering if this could cause the compensator nut to come loose or cause any other issues and what should I be looking for?
I do notice a slight clunk when I release the clutch lever when up shifting.
Kind of like slack in the driveline.

That shouldn't cause the bolt to loosen but if it did it was already loose. Not a bad idea to remove and re torque it though. Red loc tite.

My compensator story. <br />
Not long after I bought my 06 FATBOY it started making a loud &quot;PING&quot; when start button was pressed (like a hammer hitting an anvil) then the motor would start turning over then start. Dealership tightened my compensator nut &amp; hasn't made that sound in a year. Cranked it yesterday and it had knocking at Idle (sounded just like rod knock) coming from lower left side that would go away with higher rpm. Went to dealership &amp; they tightened my compensator nut with the &quot;new&quot; procedure from HD, knock gone. They say it shouldn't come loose again with new procedure.

A loose comp sprocket assembly will make a horribble clunk, clunk sound in the bottom end. It will make you think the motor is coming apart. Usually most noticeable in neutral.

Better to be safe than sorry....pull the outer primary cover and check. She takes a good amount of torque....155-165 is the common spec (I think official factory spec is 165). Need good strong wrench with breaker bar, and a primary lock (couple of different types....stepped lock to put 'tween chain 'n comp teeth, or a bar type...lock 'tween teeth of front 'n rear)
