Default Help , need a clue. Dyna dead on the road

EDIT- I got going to get it off the road. thanks

Bike died a 1000 miles from home a couple of miles from hotel. If anyone Is still up a oils use help fault finding . Did not ride in 2 days, 99 degrees in Dallas today, riding along at 35, ffirst noticed speedo needle drop to 0 and return- twice few blocks in between, then as start to go to idle for red light , red engine light comes on and as I glide into turn lane bike dies. No lights when in ignition position, speedo lights up at the first click stop of the key turn.

Am I dead and need to call in that HOG tow, or is something I can try?

Anyone know the name of the iPhone app for the forum, sorry re typos

Sounds like your stator took a dump.
Check primary fluid for copper flecks and/or burnt wire smell.
I hope it isn't, not a quick fix.

Could be a dead battery or your ignition points are dirty, you'll have to take it apart and clean the connections and lube them back up before you put it togather. Sorry that's all I got good luck

Might be as simple as a loose battery connection.

How old is your battery?

Been there before so good luck.

Default it seems to be heat related

after i typed the post I tried it again and the headlight lit up. I waited for the lights to sync and then it fired right up and i made it 2 miles to the parking garage and it died again. tomorrow I'll check the battery terminals.

anyone know if autozone can check a HD battery?

thanks for the help. and if anyone has diagnosis ideas I'd appreciate it.

are there any heat related cut-off circuits on a 2000 Dyna FXDX?

Of course the app was already on phone , you can find it by searching for IB Automotive Group in the App Store , it's free

Forum is the first one under power sports

After pushing the Dyna uphill for a block to get it out of the street I was as hot as the bike.

You still in Dallas or south of it on I35?

http://www.longhornhd.com/about-us/

HD dealer south side of Dallas. Find you one if you need help. Sure some of DFW board members will know of Indys.

Sounds like a voltage regulator overcharging to me. If it was your stator the bike would have **** on you without warning. Test your voltage regulator, and if its fried, replace the entire charging system with a cycle electric chsrging system. Like most things with Harley Davidson on them, the chsrging systems are worthless right down to the copper on the stator.

I have no help to offer (due to lack of knowledge on the topic) other than I wish you the best of luck getting back on the road to continue your adventure. Sorry you got stranded. If there's anything I can help with from back in WI, let me know.
