Default Need new back tire.

Although not yet to wear bars, gonna get a new tire. I have a 2009 fxdc
Thinking Avon or night dragons. Been advised the Avon's are awesome but see great reviews on the night dragons.
Not expecting to get 12,000 miles out of any,but 8 would suit me fine. Front tire seems OK but would I benefit from matching them?
As of now, both are stock tires.

Go to someplace like Dennis Kirk and check reviews. I know for my bikes I like Metzeler 888, Dunlop EIII and Michelin Commander II in that order. Will soon need to go to something else in the front of the Road King as since it was trashed and will be getting a new everything, including a Klock Werks Wrapper fender I am trying to find a front wheel in 18 or 19". Then finding tires to match is another issue.

Yep, those 3 tires in that order, Dennis Kirk, as mentioned, and Jake Wilson, sometimes MotorcycleSuperstore.

I run the Metzler ME888. It is a great tire and I have been running Metzler since 2005. I don't know much about the Dunlop E3 or Michelin Commander II , so I won't comment on them. I got my Metzler ME888 MU85-16 rear from Jake Wilson for $130 and free shipping. Best price I could find on the web.

you need a great tire at a fair price you need to check out Kenda tires,
they are some sticky mother bears when it comes to corners

Thanks for the tips. Will check the local cycle tire shop to see what they carry first.

Tell ya what they usually carry is a hefty price tag. All the good sites have been mentioned, DK, JW, etc. Once you save a bunch of money find a decent Indy that will change your tire. I usually pay no more than $40 with the wheel on the bike.

put on a set of Mich's Commander II last summer..

Got 9200 miles on them now.
I replace tires when they get down to the wear bars which is when there is about 2/32nd's tread left on them...

I just went out to Measure them...

Here is my Results

When New, the rear had 8/32'nds tread. Now the rear has 4/32nd's.. so with (6/32nd's usable tread) they are about 2/3rds wore out..
So at present rate of wear, I am looking to get about 13k, Maybe 14K out of the rear 80/150-16

Front had 5/32nd's new and now has a little over 3/32nd's left.
So getting 20k out of the front might be pushing it??

I am 64, mostly putt around on the county/country roads with the wife on the rear riding usually 30-50 mph.

I am Not hard on tires at all and here in our neck of the woods in Mid Indiana we have mostly all Straight and flat roads.

So my tire wear should be about as good as anyones is.
