Default Harley battery vs off brand?

Bike was not holding charge, was going to ride it in to dealer to get checked as am leaving for sturgis and don't want THAT problem weighing on me. Was on tender from sun to tue. Would not start at all. Jumped it with my truck to get it there. Told them to check battery and charging system. Again, do not want to be stranded on way out to sturgis. Battery shot, they replaced.. Final bill 213 bucks. Battery 175.00 and of course the hour installation fee. I will pay the dumb *** tax, but the service guy said there is a reason for the high cost of a mo co battery, compare to a battery from battery plus. What is hour thoughts on this? Thanks in advance. John

Still on my first HD battery. But on my BMW; the forums all wanted to stick with a BMW battery. Found a YUASA battery worked better when it came time to replace.

Deka battery....As good as they get.

Deka makes the "H-D" battery, you just don't have to pay the ridiculous MoCo markup for the bar and shield logo.

If I remember correctly there are only 3 battery manufacturers with hundreds of different brand names on them.

Of course there is a reason for the cost: ADP*. Seriously, the Duracell replacement from Batteries Plus is a fine one - and a DEKA branded one as well (the HD batteries are OEM branded DEKAs from my understanding).

Of course, this is the good ol' US of A and a product is worth exactly what someone is willing to pay for it. $213 out the door isn't so bad for peace of mind.

* ADP = additional dealer profit

They're selling you the Kool-Aid...HD is a "branded" Deka/Big Crank battery which you can get online (BatteryMart) for right under $100/delivered (see link).

I have been buying Deka batteries for last 10 ys ,no problems. I had my stock HD battery on my 04 flhtc internally stort out after less than 2 yrs. I always use a tender.I now just change out my batteries every 3 yrs,no matter what. but they fit my Moto guzzi and I also use them in my john deere tractor.I jst had a bad one ,but it was an Hd one ,so why waste the money.

Been using these from them for a long time. Never had a problem and the durability is great.
