Help a noob out - Cleaning tail pipe
OK yes I'm a noob With that out of the way, I went for a quick ride yesterday. I was wearing some baggy black sweatpants. They are glossy and I am not sure the material because the tags are removed. Well long story short at some point in the ride the pants hit the pipe and burned a bit. Of course I didn't notice it until after the ride was over. Don't care about the pants but now I have a nice gummy black spot on my pipe. Anyone know of the best way to clean it off without marring the pipes?

A razor knife works great for me. Just don`t press too hard, or it will scratch the pipe. Then finish the fine stuff with some oven cleaner, WD40 or carburetor cleaner. Make sure you put this stuff on a rag instead of spraying it and risk messing up your painted surfaces.

I'll ask the Toxic Avenger. I know he's burned his pink tutu on the tail pipe before. And seeing he's Melvin the mop boy, he probably knows best what works.

Someone here said rubbing a penny, flat on the surface that's messed up, will take it off and not mess up the chrome, since the penny is copper and soft.

A simple and inexpensive way to remove rust from and polish chrome surfaces by hand is to rub it with aluminum foil dipped in water. Since the aluminum foil is softer than steel, it will not scratch the surface.
