06 Radio has no sound.
My 06 Harmon Kardon Radio died. Radio works but no sound. Should I send it in for $250 repair or should I get a new radio like a Sony, JVC, Kenwood? If I get an off market type radio and the adapter harness for my hand controls do I need a Marine Radio or Regular radio. Seems like cartoys is saying they are all the same. I say BS. The HK is solid on top to prevent water from dripping down on it. The other radios are open and need a piece of plastic to cover them with.
Should I stick with my HK and get it fixed or pay for a new one that would be smaller and lighter? Only problem there is I would need to figure out the adapter Harness and how to program the harness module for the hand controls.

Mine did the same thing. I've talked to Iron Cross and then looked at other options. Jensen just came out with the only direct replacement head unit on the market and it's not the same division as the cheap crap they sell for cars. It's a marine grade, bluetooth equipped head unit that is totally plug and play. You will retain your hand controls so no harnesses or splicing needed for install. It's kind of pricey but by the time you figure in a new HU, install kit, handlebar control kit and various connectors it's not much if any more. Check out the audio section and you can learn a lot from some of the guys who have already dealt with this issue you're having

Glydman, what kind of bike do you have. If you have an Ultra, you have the convenience of the other bands (cb/aux/wb, intercomm) and also the diagnostics. I'm not sure you will get all that with an aftermarket radio. The HK radio is a very well made radio with a ton of features. Its not the radio that is the problem, its the bike and the mounting system, (broken fairing brackets and too long of handlebar mounting screws. I just sent my radio in for repair to Iron Cross Audio because I had no sound thru the speakers (Code 2017). I talked to Maria and she mentioned to me to see if my handlebar screws were replaced because they were hitting the bottom of the radio. My bike is a 2006 Ultra. I went and looked and no, they haven't been replaced. I am contacting the dealer today to get the replacement screws (p/n. 12600003). I'll be getting my radio back from IRA tomorrow. I gladly pay $250.00 for the repair, money well spent. Sure miss my tunes.
