I would have waited until the new bars arrived to tear it down. New bars with cables, brake lines and wires is less than an eight hour job.

No matter how long the job would take, I'd never tear it down until I got everything on hand to do the job, simply for this very reason. If you had it to do over again, that is the adjustment I would make...
