Stage 1 Air Cleaner

Stage 1 Air Cleaner
I have been shopping for a replacement air cleaner on my 2012 RK. I'm getting opposite information with respect to having to "remap" if I install a stage 1 a/c. The local dealer service desk advises I will definitely have to remap, and looking at the attached link, they advertise that if I leave the exhaust stock, I will not have to make any further adjustments.

I am happy with the OEM exhaust and did not plan on changing it out. Just looking to help it breathe a bit better, and at the same time look for something different than the "football". So, can anyone provide some advice as to what is the correct answer to this ? The only upgrade or change done to the bike is the previous owner had the cat cut out of the exhaust to help run cooler. Other than that, it is stock.

It's really gonna depend on your bike. On my 2011, even though EVERYBODY said it would be okay, it didn't like even slip-on mufflers without at least the dealer download. Got a lot of decel pop and an occasional backfire. That was with both American Custom Bomber mufflers with no baffles, and the V&H Monster Rounds with the baffles.
Before you go to the expense of replacing the entire a/c, you might try just a high flow filter in the stock can to see how it reacts to just that.
Duplicate post. WTH??? Sorry.

I had my AC on my bike for about 10 days before they added my pipes and it was then, that they tuned it. It ran just fine with the AC and not tuning.

Actually, I have a fair bit of decel pop the way it is now. I wonder if that is due to the cat being cut out ? Not a bad idea of the hi-flow filter in the OEM air cleaner. Thanks for the idea, I'll have to check that out.

Changing the Air filter won't do you a bit of good unless you change out your pipes.
The stock A/C will flow about 1.5x to 2x what your motor uses..
You can buy a different A/C cover and get the look you want and won't waste $$$

I put this system on http://www.dkcustomproducts.com/Chro...587-CCY-TC.htm
I also put Cycle Shack slip ons on.
I richened the fuel mixture up with these http://www.dkcustomproducts.com/FL-X...XiED-10-NR.htm
Bike FEELS (butt dyno) like it gained 10 horsepower and runs beautifully.
I also put Cycle Shack slip ons on.

Since the exhaust and air cleaner will have been modified. you will need some sort of fuel management system. Below is a link that can help you on which direction to go there.
