Close call...dead deer
I have been in Oregon for the last 9 days riding with my Brother. We did a 3 day trip last weekend Portland - Yrika - Crescent City - Portland. We were about 30 miles North of Grants Pass on a dark night on I-5 when we passed a semi after switching to the left lane. My brother and his girlfriend were lead and I was staggered right at 70 mph. We didn't see the dead deer until we were almost on top of it. The main body was dead center in front of my Brother with several other chunks scattered to the right. He went right over/through the main body and I managed to go between the pieces. I can't believe they didn't go down. There was blood n guts covering the whole underside of his bike and it stunk like hell from cooking on the pipes. We stayed in Grants pass and found a car wash the next AM. We were all very lucky.
He has been working this week and I have been cruising Mt Hood and the Columbia, Sandy , Hood River, and Clackamas River twisties.

Had the same thing happen years ago. I was on a Kawasaki 650 in a thunder storm. Luckily it was a small deer. Smelled cooking deer on the pipes for miles after that lol. Funny thing was my buddy behind me followed me right over it.

If you can swing it, try taking hwy 224 east to Detroit Lake. Hwy 224 turns into NF 46. Great road with minimal traffic. Stop in Detroit for lunch then head back for home. Great day ride.

Hopefully you are still up in that area, some truly awesome riding in Washington out to Carson off 14 up and around St Helens then back towards Vancouver over the bridge and home. Nice day trip.

Glad everything turned out well.
I live in a very rural area. I try to avoid riding in the dark. Here, live deer are a risk year round, but, road kill is a daily hazard whether it is deer, raccoon, skunk, possum, etc.
Ride safe.

I don't ride at night much anymore but my Bro doesn't take many days off in summer and we try to get in as many miles as we can on Fridays after he finishes work. We both had the same thoughts minutes before the deer incident - full moon coming up - a beautiful night for a ride - But I know there are deer out there!!!!!!
