Opinions needed on this 1980 FXWG
Hi guys,
Thanks to all of you for saving me from a major headache a few weeks ago, now I'm looking at a 1980 FXWG. It looks pretty clean and original, all numbers match and serial begins and ends with 9GxxxxxJ0. The engine is stock and has new pistons and valves, it starts right up cold with the electric start (the kickstart didn't work even after the engine was warm). The engine seems strong, doesn't smoke, and all gears are very smooth. Before the top end was rebuilt the engine supposedly had 19,000 miles but hard to confirm.
It looks like some of the original engine paint was removed and most of the bolts have some rust. The battery leaked and pitted the swingarm and there's a very very slight dent in the tank.
Is it worth the asking price of $7500 ?
Thanks for all your help once again :-)

would I pay $7500 for 34 yr old bike... NO- WAY_Hoesey...... I'd add another 8K to it and get a new one with a two yr warranty and NOT have to fix all the probleano's of having/buying one that old and getting it ready to take on a trip....

Tacky old bike,it might be worth 5k if it runs good. I'd be thinking more like 3500 in it's present condition though. [don't tell anybody, but I paid 7500 for my '06 Ultra-high miles and all]

What do you mean by tacky ? Lol - because of the color ? It looks great in person $3500 seems ridiculously low, I've seen much crappier ones go for $6500...

Nothing wrong with a 34 year old bike, those shovels are very reliable. Not sure what your bikes go for in your area, but here that would be in the mid fives so to me its priced a little high unless it talks to you, then You just pay the mans price.

Its relative to what its worth to you really. Bought an 07 high mileage (66k) softail custom this last year for $10k. I overpaid IMO but it had a few extras on it, good service records, and ran great. Are you wanting an older classic bike is prolly biggest question. Kickstart is not usually a big thing but Id def use that as negotiation point. To pay those $$ Id want it working. Just me.
