I rode for 15 years with drag bars and forward controls. Got some 18+ hour rides under my belt. When I got the Dyna I decided to be different and went with 14" bars and left the mid controls. IMHO, the 14" bars are way more comfortable. And I think they look cool too.
I would imagine that ape bars that put your hands and forearms above your heart would be very fatiguing when riding. Is this not so? I saw a cycle today that had the handgrips at eye-level. That has to be bad ergonomics, surely.
All day comfort. Sitting up, rather than leaning forward, back straight, arms up.
Plus, I love the look.
This, 'ceptin' for 14"s on my Super Glide. Put my hands just a hair above shoulder height. No more low-back pain, no more shoulder pain, no more cramping & numbness in my hands. Wish I'd gone to 'em sooner.
I have reached an age where comfort is more important than looks, with apes you get both, great long distance comfort + they look bad a**. I read a ton of posts before buying them and nearly everyone who has them loves them, most (not all) who don't like them haven't tried them. I have back problems and the apes made a world of difference in how long I can ride in comfort.
