New soon to be HD owner (I hope)

Cam chain tensioner is not an issue on newer bikes (post 07). Every year has it's issues, but most people think their year is great. Personally I prefer buying a low mileage used bike, but you will love a new HD, but most at least do a Stage One upgrade eventually, for more power, less heat and better sound.
C'mon over, you will become one of the cult.

Hey Ron 750 Im all about saving money and buying lightly used stuff,
but I havnt had a brand new bike since my CBR 600F4 in 1999. Fun bike, and Ive been building and throwing money away into old CB750s turned cafe racers for years(horrible investment). I fell in love with my Amen Savior chopper, turned bobber by me and now that Im older and slower Im still working on the wiser part, and in a stable relationship with a woman that "wants" to ride, I really really really want my own brand new bike again.

Well, congrats, don't worry, enjoy, and welcome to the forum!
I'm a fan of buying new because of the warranty and the fact that well... it's BRAND NEW. No one else's *** has been in the seat and you know it hasn't been rode hard & put away wet. Every now & then **** happens, but that's what the warranty is for. I think in the long run, you'll be very happy.

Congrats dude and welcome to the Harley Davidson family. Don't sweat it bro. Check out the softail section of the forum and you will find it is a lot of satisfied softail owners. I've got two softails and no issues with either.

I'm 47 and spent the last 30 years riding mostly sport bikes. I started on an 883 in 1987 and then moved to a Suzuki Bandit and have been on Jap crotch rockets ever since, save for a few Ducati and Aprilias. My 103 has been very solid so far, albeit it only has 4k miles, but they were hard ridden ones. I spend most of my time at 100mph on the highway. The Dyna's handle really good. They're small and light (well, as far as a Harley goes anyway). I love my Harley so much now I wonder why I didn't buy one 10 years ago. Best of luck to ya!

I'm all about maintenance and doing it right. I'm also a huge sceptic when it comes to trying something new and at what I'm about to pay for a new Slim I need to know the thing is going to outlast my loan payments lol. The way I see it Harley must be doing something right. I mean come on, 100+ years in business? Sure they had ups and downs. I just need to be 100% sure that I'm getting the quality I expect. Its a tough decision for me, I know my Dad will roll in his grave, he rode and worked for them in the 60s-70s, and the depreciation on a honda is stupid. And they are ugly now as far as the standards go. The 70s era 750s and modern sports are all I like. I can't see making $3000 worth of payment on a bike that drops 4000 in value its first year. And the Slim is just dead sexy!

Whats up guys, Sean here.
38 yrs old bla bla bla.
Not new to riding but Im about to get my very first Harley
(dont think my Buell X1 counts) awesome motor, **** frame.
Ive been riding since I was 16, owned/rode all inline 4 bikes,
from modern sport bikes to vintage CB750s and a few parallel twins.
Curently own a 1977 CB750K as my everyday ride and an Amen Savior with a 1975 CB750SS motor in it.
I have just put a deposit down on a 2014 Softail Slim.
And now I have major concerns?
And please dont judge me. Im learning here.
Is the 103b motor reliable? It seems there is a lot of bad talk out there about the valve train, cam chain tensioners, noise from the motors, catastrophic failures?
Im so excited about my upcoming new bike purcahse, The Slim fits my style and need for a comfotable 2 up bike, but Im afraid now that high maintenace cost down the road are going to be killer to my budget on top of a loan payment.
Please guide and teach me.
