What does Primary chain slap sound like? 2012 103
So I'm hearing a "tink tink tink" sound sometimes. The sound is very similar to the sound when you park your bike after a ride and its cooling down and the metal cooling off makes a pinging sound. When it happens usually on acceleration. I only hear it coming from the primary side, so I don't think it is a motor knock. I've had the bike dyno tuned this year. It's a 2012 Limited with a stage 1 and TW222 cams with Woods lifters and FM pushrods. 23k miles
I'm not overly concerned with the sound unless it is a problem. It is a seperate sound from the lifters and valve train, it seems. Thanks

I had the exact same thing. It would happen on a hard acceleration the instant I got on it. Turns out it was a pinging due to the timing after I installed my stage 1 setup. I have a PCV on my bike. I was able to get a new map from Fuel Moto and no more tink sound.

Usually primary chain noise is most prevalent when you let off the throttle not under load and it's a slapping clunk not a tinking sound. Timing maybe, a bit of detonation with e-gas or the dreaded comp sprocket.

Sounds like engine ping to me. I used a dose of Lucas octane to rule it out for me, lo and behold it took care of the ping. I've been running it ever since. The gas around here really sucks with the addition of the corn. Anyhow it's a cheap way to rule out bigger issues.

fullauto, I have had that same "tink" sound on acceleration (not lugging the engine). Sounds like a bunch of BBs hitting a tin can and coming from the primary. One day I had the primary cover off and noticed where the chain had been hitting the cover. I adjusted (tightened) the tensioner. Seemed to help. I thought about dremmeling down some of the cover where the chain had been hitting.

The sound does come and go. I just filled up last night and put some octane boost in. It might be knock from a bad tank of gas. I'm going riding all day so time will tell.
Thanks for the input
