Ordering Harley Parts
Does it really take 10+ business days for special orders?
I ordered an Ign/switch 2wks ago (tomorrow)
Still not here.
I guess they come coded for your original key, so
maybe that takes longer?
Is a week or more normal? Being in GM parts, our customers
are SCREAMING if they don't have their parts the next day.
Do Harley dealers just wait for their weekly stock orders to get an
allowance or discount from the factory?

I have noticed the lead time for special order motorcycle stuff is considerably longer than the automotive aftermarket...my customers don't like it when they have to wait till later in the day lol...
back in the 70's I ordered a seat through a friends shop, he ordered it from a warehouse that was 40 miles away. It took almost 2 weeks.

Matched code keys are not actually processed by the normal Harley parts distributor and are shipped snail mail most times!
I used to work at a stealership and up to two weeks isn't an odd thing to see.

Like chuckw says if you think 10 days is a long time you really wouldn't want to have been around in the 60's and 70's.

Thanks for the replies
yeah, they're just ordering on their weekly stock orders
to keep the discount (volume orders etc)
That's just lousy cust service.
BTW, I was around in the 70's (teenager)
But my dad was good friends with the owner (Sam Arena)
so if his Harley needed a part, they'd just take it
off another bike. Yeah , those were rough years for
the ol' Mo Co. It is a true wonder they made it.
