Default Headlamp cleaner kit for windshield

I washed off my windshield tonight and thought about those kits for cleaning plastic headlight lens on cars. This is an older windshield and was wondering if this would work to clear it up a little.

Has anyone used one of these kits for their windshield with good results?

Thanks.

Yes, I did it about six months ago. Cleared it up well for day time riding. Not to good at night. The headlights of cars at night seem to show all the scratches and cloudiness

One of our sponsors, Cee Bailey's, offers windshield restoration service for $50.00. Their website contains the following info.

CAUTION: polishing can be done on acrylic (Plexiglas) windshields. If your windshield is polycarbonate (Lexan), it likely has a protective coating on it which polishing will destroy.

"Please be advised that the majority of most original equipment manufactures shields are made out of polycarbonate AKA Lexan. Shields manufactured out of Polycarbonate are usually clearly stamped on the lower portion of the shield. They are identified by PC, GE, Lexan, or Polycarbonate. If any of these engraved stamps are present we can not attempt restoration."

If it's a stock shield, it's polycarbonate and can not be polished due to its hard coating. If it's acrylic, I'd recommend Novus. Great stuff and that is its purpose.

Thanks for the replies, I'll have to check if it is Lexan.

Just wanted to follow up, the windshield is Lexan. I brought it up to the house and used dish liquid to cut the grease and road grime. Ended up washing it a couple of times, looks really clear now. Must have been an old build up of gunk.
Surprised me how much better it is.

After you're finished cleaning it, put some kind of protectant on it. It will make cleanup much easier in the future. I use Plexus and Longrideshields recommends Novus both of which work really well.

I've been using Meguiar's plastic polish I can buy at Wally-World. Are you guys telling me I've been damaging my 2006 Ultras lexan windshield cleaning/polishing with it? It is very clean and clear when I do a good job both front and rear with it. To the guy who said Lexan has a protective coating and it can be damaged by polish; that doesn't sound right to me.

That said, a couple of years ago I bought a new Bell helmet with a visor that said it had an "anti-fog" coating on the inside. Well, that was all well and good until it got so dirty I had to clean it. I use the same polish as above.

FYI: Windex or any other cleaning product containing ammonia will kill a polycarbonate (lexan and other trade names) windshield
