Default U-turn without duckwalking... big deal?

I can do 17' u-turns without putting my feet down, and while it's a neat parking lot trick/skill (but definitely not a panty dropper), I'm wondering what the practical reasons for being able to do so might be.

When I took the MSF BRC, the lead instructor said he couldn't think of a scenario where being able to make u-turns without using your feet would save your life.

The only reason I can think of for being able to do u-turns without your feet is that it will get you going in the other direction faster than duckwalking. That could be a lifesaver if you need to get away from an oncoming Godzilla or other such thing.

There are plenty of duckwalkers out there with gobs of riding miles who have gotten by just fine without being able to whip a tight u-turn. Are they tempting fate, or are "footless u-turns" not that big of a deal?

Are you really curious about duckwalkers or did you just post this thread as a means to brag about yourself?

No, I was honestly curious. I suppose I could have done without the whole "I can do 17' u-turns." Sorry.

Yikes! Well, this has gone in a completely different direction than I expected. I guess you could say, this thread has done a u-turn from what I hoped it would be.

I once did a U-turn around a quarter and left fifteen cents in change.

On most stock bikes, if you know what yer doing, you can ride in circles inside 2 standard parking spaces.

You need to read this thread. Learning to keep your feet up as much as possible means you are in better control, and don't have to worry about having your foot slide out on sand or oil. I still have to put my feet out occassionally, like on my driveway, a tight u turn going from downhill to uphill around a well pipe, but I can occassionally pull it off with feet up.
I enjoy gaining mastery over gravity.
