Ape hangers

Ape hangers
Can one of you guys help me out with a question on ape hangers. I just had 14" Apes put on my 2008 RK that has TBW on it. The bars are notched for TBW but are 7.75" on the left side and 7.75" on the throttle side also. When you add on the TBW module it adds another .5". This leaves a .5" gap between the controls and the 1.25" part of the bars. Are bars for TBW made .5" shorter on the throttle side? Help

I was reading on a website (I think PM) that said if the clutch side grip get inserted into the controls you may need to cut 1/2" off of bars. If the grip butts up to the controls then you should be good.
So yes you may have to cut the bars on the clutch side depending on what type of grip you go with and how much the gap is between them.

Thanks for the info. What I'm finding is the throttle side is 1/2" to long due to the throttle by wire device being added on to the end of that bar. Has anyone cut off the 1/2" and also notched the bars. Don't really want to do it since these are brand new bars! $500 and the throttle side is 1/2" longer than the other, looks like crap and I'm told their all that length. How come my stock bars aren't ?

They should be shorter on that side. Some companies do indicate that theirs are.
So you can't slide the switch housing out to the control perch on the throttle side and float the clutch side out a half inch? I've slightly had shorter grips that I had to do that with.

I'm going to cut off 1/2" and notch on throttle side.Mfr. Said they have sold thousands of bars like that. I can,t believe everyone would be happy with a 1/2" gap between the 1" part and the 1 1/4" part. Ffme I guess I have to do the job right.
