Default throttle/clutch issue

I have a 2002 Fatboy, and just changed the engine and primary to regular synthetic Mobil 1, 15/50, the car oil not the motorcycle type. Now what is happening is that when I pull in the clutch the rpm's do not go down to idle right away and stay at whatever rpm they were at. Could this be caused by the oil I put in the primary ? Are the clutch plates not disengaging properly ?

Well, there's one way to find out. Drain your primary and try a different oil. FWIW, I also have a 2002 Fatboy and just run regular Valvoline 10w X 40 Dino oil. Just make sure whatever oil you use doesn't have any friction modifiers in it. JMO

Can you sit at lights with the bike in gear but the clutch level pulled in? Can you walk the bike forwards and backwards with it like that too? If so, then the clutch is unlikely to be dragging.

Has nothing to do with the oil. You do not say if it is FI. If carb, something is binding your throttle cable. FI could be same thing but there are other things on an FI it could be.

Default idle issue

yes it is FI, I adjusted the cables at the throttle, but that did not help. I am removing the tank for a paint job and will check the cables at the throttle bodies to see if there is anything dragging there.

thanks johnv
