Default Demo Ride Disaster

After seeing the Dyna Low Rider in person last night, I knew I had to take one for a demo ride. If there is one bike that could replace my Softail Slim, the Low Rider would be it.

After cruising around town for a few miles, I get on the interstate so I can open it up a bit. After cruising at 70 mph for a few minutes, I look in my right mirror and see that I'm leaving a trail of white smoke behind the bike. I take the next exit and pull into a parking lot to see what is going on.

This is what I see.

Oil was pouring out of the air cleaner assembly. There was no oil around the heads, but the rest of the engine, exhaust, and battery cover was covered in oil. I can only assume that the engine oil was overfilled. I called the dealer and they came with a flat bet to pick up myself and the bike.

Talk about embarrassing for the dealer! The Milwaukee Rally is going on this weekend, so this is not good exposure for this dealer.

I still talked some numbers with the salesman just to get an idea so I can further shop around. He gave me an OTD price of $2700 and $11200 trade-in for my Slim. I am 100% sure I could have got the price down to $2000, but I am not 100% sure on the bike just yet.

Just thought I'd share how my demo ride went!

Expect to see this post linked on every Victory and Indian forum. They really did give the ol' Low Rider a 70's vibe, eh? Lol

I would not trust that dealer to service my bike, let alone buy one from them if they did indeed overfill the oil.

Maybe HD is returning to the past when Harley's leaked oil normally.

I like the lowrider myself but don't think I would give up my softail (09 Fatboy) for one . Softail Slim is a nice Bike.

I test rode one at Daytona Bike week in March. I gotta say it's a sweet bike and a joy to ride.

Question Let's crunch some numbers...

Maybe someone can explain this type of trade-in deal to me. I know the dealer isn't selling the low rider for $2000 or $2700. At the same time he hasn't banked the sale of the Slim. I'm assuming the buyer of the low rider is "paying" somewhere between $13,200 and $13,900. But what if he still owes on the slim...which is likely? Let's say he still owes $10k on the slim. What's the deal then? This is why I've never traded in a vehicle.
