'Q' Plate or New Frame/Log Book.

'Q' Plate or New Frame/Log Book.
Hi all,
I have purchased a 3/4 finished project and unfortunately the frame is aftermarket so does not tally with engine. Plus the bike is made up of various other bits, a majority of which I have receipts for.
I have looked into it and can either SVA test and 'Q' plate, or buy
newframe and log book.
Considering I have receipts for the frame and engine would this put you off buying this or any other bike like it?
Or would a log book and frame be wiser, even though I will have to spend alot of cash obtaining one?
Thanks

Yeah it would put me off buying it, Q plates can usually cause problems when reselling, but if your happy with it and you arnt thinking of reselling at the moment keep it, if you buy another frame how's that going to talley up to the engine ? The other thing is insurance, not sure how they view home made bikes on Q plates. Good luck with that one.

Man; I have absolutely NO idea what you're talking about.
But...remember one of Dickey's cardinal rules of life: It is much better to regret NOT doing something than to regret DOING it.
So no; Not a good deal.

OP is typing English as spoken from our Mother country. I gather the OP has an aftermarket frame with no VIN.

Hi all,
Ive realised you are all USA., where the laws are very diferent from the UK. My issue is a registration issue, and I assume you do not have MSVA tests in the US, so I appreciate you won't have a clue what the f... I've been on about.
Thanks for the replys anyway.

I'm picking up what you're laying down. I would take the least expensive route that will legally get you on the road. Even if you are simply building it for re-sale, you will find a buyer. I can't see the economic feasibility of spending the money for a new frame and log book. It wouldn't be as highly valued but you won't have as much invested either. Kind of a "you reap what you sow" scenario. Good luck with it!

I've had a couple of "Q"plate bikes never had a prob with insurance, easiest way around it is to buy old frame/log book, anything will do i once had a shovel on a bantam, got pulled on it never had a problem but harley log books are pricey here (£1-2k) unless you can get a cheep sporty part it out n keep log book it'll b worth as much as the bike..i sold an old shovel chop this year, in boxes but reg on a Q plate in 1987 got £3700 on ebay had loads of emails from all over the place so won't be impossible to sell on..
