Splitting Lanes: Should it be Legal Everywhere?

Only as safe as the nut behind the bars.

I can only speak for myself.
If you find me in a cage it's going to almost always be either just me, or just me and my dog in this.
But every now and then you're going to find me like this.
My Harley is my gas sipper, but plenty of people think I'm just some ******* on a 2 wheel status symbol too.

The way cagers tend to kill bikers is either pulling out in front of them, or rear-ending them.
Filtering through stopped traffic helps against the rear-ending problem.
Completely unrelated to safety it saves time and fuel for everybody on the road but not by a noticable amount to cagers in the U.S. currently. In other parts of the world where there are way more motorcycles it makes a big difference.

It's like most things...
I'm currently living in CA, so I see it all the time. Unfortunately, it is used and abused far too often. Usually by clowns on crotch rockets flying between cars scaring the hell out of people. If it was consistently used in a safe manner, I'd be all for it. But like most things, a few ruin it for many.

Should be "legal", and not just "not illegal", in all states. IMO.
Ya rolls the dice, and ya takes your chances. Just like rolling on 2 wheels vs. 4.
And for those who cry "wait your turn in line", or "pay for the privilege", that logic doesn't hold up when you consider HOV lanes and on-ramps. Provides an additional benefit in exchange for reducing congestion/improving traffic flow vs. everyone queuing-up behind the lowest common denominator.

Lane splitting is a personal choice one each person should decide not lawmakers politicians or LEOs
I split, regardless of whether its legal or not regardless of whether im in California or not.
Personal safety trumps all views so if you think your safety is in jeopardy then split. If you are caught pay the fine and move on.
Been splitting for over 15 years in and out of CALIFORNIA never had a citation. May get one in spring when snow thaws, if that happens , so be it. Price of freedom
