Default Overfilled my gas tank?

This is only the second time I've filled the tank on this 09 Deluxe....I try hard not to spill even a drop on the gas tank.

Drove home a few blocks and parked the bike. Came out 30 min later and see a pool of some fluid under bike...!

I see gasoline coming from under the speedo and leather cover, dripping down onto the fitting at bottom of tank.

Nothing coming out of gas cap filler area....hmmm.

Is there a maximum fill to that I'm unaware of? and when bike was upright it overflowed??? Or do I have a leak?

Obviously, I'm not much of a mechanic or I'd figure it out myself.

Hopefully those with better skills and more experience and calm my nerves. I

I wiped it clean and drove it about ten miles....no more leak. So it seems obvious I overfilled it.

I'll drive it 20-30 miles in morning and see if there's any gas anywhere besides in the tank.

Thanks for your help...and feel free to reassure me I'm not all that sharp....

I think you probably answered your own question, maybe you're sharper than you think.

All the real bikers are out partying so you may not get a reply to this till late Sunday.

I have nothing of value to add, just wanted to see if my sig pic works.

It happened to me once. Under my dash on the tank and up close to the fuel gauge and fill spout, there's a rubber gasket and it wasn't making a tight seal so after it was replaced, the gas stopped leaking from under the dash. Worked for me and I could then continue to fill my tank up to the top without worrying about gas leaking from under the dash.

Wink

Your bike is EFI and the EFI pump is installed from the top, underneath the instrument panel. It is quite likely the 'top plate' is leaking, which you should be able to cure with a new gasket. You can see an exploded diagram of that area on one of the on-line parts websites, like this one. If you have a warranty see if you can get your dealer to fix it. If not you could try an indy, or fix it yourself. If you DIY I recommend you get yourself the factory service manual, which will guide you through what needs to be done.

Default Leaking Seal

That's what I'm thinking.....I know I didn't overfill it. Nothing leaked out of the gas cap. Thanks and I did buy an extended warranty and will call them up and see how it goes.

sounds like an mfg flaw in the tank. Get it looked at and warrantied.

Replace the rubber gasket between the fuel pump plate and the tank. This it the only place gas could be coming from if not the filler bung.
