Hello all,

I just started my 2001 Road King Classic, and fuel started coming out of the rear hose, at the bottom of the tank. It doesn't seem loose. Do I need to replace the entire hose, or replace a gasket / O-ring?
There was no gas leaking before I started it. And there is no gas leaking, once I turned off the bike. Is it a vacuum seal of some sort?

When you start your bike the fuel pump starts to deliver fuel to the carb. That is most likely why you see the leak when with the bike running but not when it's off. The pressure from the pump is enough to breach the seal.

If the connector is serviceable I would start with a ethanol friendly o-ring. If that does not stop the leak then I would replace the whole hose assembly. I would also rebuild/replace both hoses at the same time.

Nope, Carb or EFI, they both need a fuel pump to provide consistent fuel pressure when the bike is running.

 

Drag Specialties makes replacement check valves for short money, get you 2 of them and replace your leaky ones, problem solved.

 

FYI, carb bikes do not have a fuel pump. So yes, it does matter that it is EFI. New seals, fuel filter and lines should be in order....
