Cruising vibration

Default Cruising vibration

SO I just got a 94 Dyna Can I balance the front wheel my self . Or do I have to bring it to my local shop .I feel a vibration at cursing speeds maybe around 40 . the guy I got the bike from said his brother in law ran into the back of his sister in law bent the forks and he replaced all the bent parts but I wanted to check the front wheel for balance and maybe even trueness .

They have a machine that spins the tire and tells you where to put the weights at and how much weight to add. I would have a shop test the tire, and rebalance it if necessary. I had a bike that one of the weights fell off and the bike vibrated like hell.

This is my first Harley and after reading a bunch of posts on Dayna vibrations I think mine is solved

You can balance a front wheel yourself, if you want to, although it is simpler in a balance machine.

I see the balancers on ebay but why cant I just jack the bike up unbolt my brake caliper so I have no drag and do the same thing with out having to take the wheel off.

You can do exactly that! The technique is to rotate the wheel slowly, so it turns over say one revolution and mark where it stops. Repeat several times, to see if it stops in the same place, when you can add a weight on the opposite rim. Then repeat until it never stops in the same place.

Let us know if you get rid of the vibration. I'm a pessimist, when I hear somebody hit something bad enough to bend the forks but the fixed everything themselves.... Then why are they selling the bike?
