Default New seat, got a few questions...

Hey all, I bought a OEM Street Bob seat to put on my FXDC since my wife doesn't care to ride at all. When I took off my OEM 2 up seat, I noticed 4 little black square pieces on my rear fender, I'm assuming to keep the seat from rubbing and also a black plug where a solo seat would be screwed down.

Question 1: Would it be a mistake to remove those little black squares? Are they that necessary? I don't want my fender to be scratched to hell if I put my 2 up back on.

Question 2: How do I go about securing the new seat since where the bolt hole lines up is just an empty hole? The other hole has a piece of metal with threads in it. Not sure I can fit my hand under the fender to do anything with it.

TIA!

My '14 FXDC had the same little squares. Yes, I would leave them there, but, more importantly, since you aren't putting a stock seat on it, you'll need to be sure that the seat touches down where the black squares are. If not, they're easy to move, just peel them off and reposition.

You'll need to buy a seat fastener nut. It goes through the hole from the bottom up, and then it fastens with a c-clip. Snaps right on. Then a screw goes through the seat and holds the seat down.

Here ya go:

Well those black squares won't do any good with the new seat since it is a solo (except look funny on the fender). Only thing I'm worried about is if one day down the road I decide to put the 2 up seat back on, if it will affect it. On my brother in laws FXDWG, he doesn't have them, but his is pre-99 as well...

I'll start searching for one of those bolts. I should be able to just put a screw in the one for the 2 up seat and just leave it there in case I want to swap back right? Hopefully I can get my arm/hand in there to install that screw, assuming it goes in from the bottom side.

Oh, solo seat? Yeah, no little squares.

Getting the nut thingy in the hole from the bottom is a piece of cake. Thread a piece of stiff baling wire or twist wire down through the hole, and through the nut. Then twist a washer or anything to keep the nut from sliding back off, and just pull it up through the hole. Snap the c-clip on and you're good to go. Put a pretty nut in it to fill the hole.

Or, Harley sells a little black plastic hole plug. Got the Bar&Shield on it and everything! Cheaper than buying the nut and screw, unless you want to plan for the future when you might want to mount a two up seat, or a passenger pillion pad.

Just ordered the seat nut, along with 2 fancy chrome seat screws. I'm definitely going to try that trick! I appreciate the help!

That's a sharp looking super glide, at times I wish mine was black instead of the burgundy-ish color that it is.

Yes, you can remove the 2 black bumpers - just keep them with your original seat in case you reinstall it..
