Default Buying an old harley

Hi,

Thinking about getting an old Harley for a project. Could someone help identify this. The owner has no clue and is no help. They live an hour away so i dont have access to the bike yet. I just need a heads up on what this might be. Thank you

I don't see AMF on it, so I'm guessing late 60s. It's a Harley-Davidson Sprint. They were made by Aeromacchi in Italy and branded HD. They were either 175cc or 350cc. On second look, it may be marked AMF before the Harley Davidson on the Tank. If so, it was made in the early 70s after AMF bought out HD.

It's junk unless that was the bike you took your wife on out on when you were dating in high school.

Find another project. You want something like that? Google Harley Hummer.

You'll dump $5-6K into the bikes restoration and end up with a $2-3K motorcycle. So go for it!

That is not a Sprint, it is an aermacchi (made in Italy) two stroke dirt bike sold with the Harley name on it back in the late 60`s, early 70`s.

The sprint had a 4 cycle engine, with cylinder pointing forward.

Let it rust in peace.

That is a 1974 SX-125. You can tell by the decals on the tank (one year only design), and the cylinder looks to be aluminum, which the went to in 74 on the 125. Before 1974 it would have been a TX-125.

I have a couple of these. I would not pay more than 250$ for the bike pictured, and I would not restore it. However, if you got it running and left it crusty it would be cool.

Looks like most of the expensive parts are there, speedometer, air cleaner, throttle assembly (although it could be broken since I can't see a cable). The wiring looks like a mess, that will be your biggest challenge. The engines themselves are easy to get running.

I took an engine out of one of these 125's and put it into a 90cc minibike frame. Talk about dangerous....

Just for the record, Sprints were made by Aermacchi too. Harley bought Aermacchi in 1960 and all the lightweights after that year came from Italy.

Why did you quote my post, do you figure I need some schooling on this stuff?

Just for the record, what was the thickness of the head gasket on the 350 sprint?
