I have always thought the Harley described method of removing the cables and doing the fall away test to be overly complicated. It seems everyone else just puts the bike on a lift and checks for movement of the forks by pushing and pulling the fork legs near the wheel. Opinions?

The fall away test is pretty simple once you've done it. Most of the time I'll jack the bike up, and just do a simple fall away test. I just sort of feel the bars swing and adjust as needed. Once a year I'll do the full blown fall away test. Always worked for me.

Fall away, pulling the bottom of the fork legs, and side to side sweeps are how we do it at the shop.
