Default Jack is too wide

New to the forum and also new to my Harley so apologies if this is dumb.

I recently ordered a drag specialties jack and am having an issue of where to jack the bike from.

I know ideally I'd put it behind the kickstand, but there is only about 4-5 inches of space between the kickstand and this rubber nub on the frame, and the jack platform is about 9.5 inches wide.

Is there a simple way around this or did I buy the wrong size jack?

So, you bought some sort of jack, and you are using it to lift some type of motorcycle...

Maybe you could give us some details, like the model of the jack, and the model and year of the bike?

So I bought a drag specialties center jack, the standard size.

I've got a 1996 Sportster 1200c.

Welcome to the forum!

What are you going to use this jack for?

I have a scissor jack, but I only use it on my table lift, to lift one end or the other for wheel removal.

Most folks use a hydraulic (or pneumatic) lift if they are lifting the whole bike up for service, such as the J&S or Pitbull.

They are not cheap...

Well I got it to change my rocker box gaskets, essentially to rotate the rear wheel to get the valves in the right position. I figured I'd get a nice one to have in the future. I don't have a garage, I need a minimal set up to just get it done.

Was just wondering if anyone had any tricks around this issue, I thought to shim around it with some wood like the manual suggests. Or else I might try to exchange for the narrow scissor jack.

Agree with Dan here , I only use the scissor lift to either lift the front or the back of the bike . Great jacks Dan posted , J&S is on my Christmas wish list .

Get 4 hockey pucks and you will be in business, use them and align them on the bottom rails then you will clear the exhaust pipes, wiring etc.

You could look at getting a set of spacers for your jack ,

You could make a plywood platform with spacers glued onto it.

Make the spacer just a bit bigger than the platform, and put some wood strips on the edges of the bottom, so the plywood cannot slide around.
