Trailer towing
I'm going to be towing a small cargo trailer and I've heard about needing an "isolator" Some companies have their products with an isolator and some don't. I have an 09 Road Glide. Do I really need to pay the extra 45 bucks?
Thanks

I tow a trailer behind my '09 Street Glide. The lighting on the trailer had been converted to LEDs before I purchased it.
But all I did with my wiring was connect the adapter below to another connector that's under the seat, near the battery. Below is the link to what I purchased.

I have an isolator on my bike and glad that I did. One of the wires came loose in the female end of the plug and fried my isolator. Bought a new isolator at the auto parts store with some tools replaced the isolator in the motel parking lot and was on my way. There was no damage to the bike.
The new isolator can be reset if shorted, so I no not need to replace it like the original one. I have been told that the isolator is not needed that if there is a short it will blow the fuse on the bike, but I like the extra insurance against the possible damage to the electrical system on my bike.

I prefer to spend a few bucks on a three pack of 15 amp fuses rather than $30 +++ for an isolator that either needs to be replaced when a wire shorts or more for one that has a reset button.
I'm still trying to figure out why I need an isolator.
