need to look if the battery is dead then poles of the battery if it is tightly screwed and then you can look on the steering wheel buttons and at the end you can look your solenoid . i had a sadden death of my steering starter button and i replace everything with that...

could be solenoid, or starter brushes,if its working from the button/ working to the starter, it is most likely in the starter

I can't help with your problem as I have a similar one.My battery volts are good,12.37,engine not running and good with engine running,13.49.The problem is that with the tranny in neutral and engagement of the starter the engine turns over sluggish, like the battery is weak.I just put this battery in the first of the year.I did not purchase the battery from H-D,but it is a good quality Duracell Gold made for motorcycles.I will mention that when I first put the battery in the bike, when I hit the start button, ignition was immediate.

Test the voltage at the battery while your trying to start it. Could have a bad cell in the battery.

voltage as low as 6.75 when the start button pushed, jumps to 10.6 and then comes up to 13.96. does that indicate a bad cell and a trip to auto zone for a replacement??

Buying your batteries at autozone or the wonderful Wallyworld "Neverstart" batteries could be your issue. Buy a good AGM performance battery if you want to save yourself headaches. Cheaper is not always better...especially in this case. I've seen cheap batteries that load test fine at the parts store not be able to turn over a bike...and after installing the proper battery, the bike starts no problem.

Regardless of where the battery was purchased,do you think the voltage drop when the starter is engaged could be an issue with the battery? As a rebuttal, I wasn't aware that H-D made batteries. I did buy an AGM battery,it wasn't cheap by no means, however it was 34$ cheaper than the one H-D sells.....

Maybe not, if it comes back strong, could be a bad starter. Try jump starting it.

We rode to supper tonight and it started fine both times.....damn gremlin related troubles are never good.I have noticed when its sluggish to start that the volt meter jumps up just a tick past 14,and then after a short period of time it will drop back to just under 14.I'm going to put it on the battery tender over night and see how it starts in the morning.I thank you for your replies and hope I can get it resolved without spending to much money.
