Default Exhaust noise level

Anybody know of a way to temporarily reduce the noise level from your exhaust pipes without severely affecting performance or causing damage?
I have V&H Straight Shots with the "quiet" baffles, which I love, but sometimes worry that an overzealous city cop might be bored and decide to pull me over for noise levels (nanny state of Washington gives them lots of leeway). Outside of town, no problem.
Thanks for any helpful input. Again, not looking to change the pipes, just reduce the noise if need be. Like, a temporary plug or insert that still lets the bike run, that you could carry in the saddle bag.

You can replace the bolts of your silencers with something homemade like that ..
