What's the major difference between 1" and 1 1/4" bars?
Been looking at putting 12" bars on my 2006 Street Glide. Seen a bunch I like but the major difference I'm seeing is the 1" and 1 1/4". The 1" obviously being a lot cheaper. I'm wanting to run the wires and everything through the bars for a more clean look. What are the pros and cons of each?
The difference is almost 100% cosmetic. I personally like 1.25" bars on bikes with wide front ends i.e. Fatboy, Heritage, Road King, etc. I think the 1" looks better on the sportster and Dyna bikes. Yes it's much easier to run wiring internally on a 1.25 set of bars.
The only real differences are 1. Affordability 2. Your personal opinion on whether they make a difference in appearance 3. Perhaps the definitive answer on the difference would be that quarter on an inch
I just knew that answer would come up. The 1 1/4 bars are more stout looking and I think with my limited knowledge of metal strength would be much stronger. IMHO the 1 inch bars look like they belong on a bicycle but then again it is JMHO.
To the best of my knowlege you can't internally wire 1" bars. The 1-1/4" bars step down to 1" at the bar clamps but at that point there's enuf room for the wires.
At least all the ones I've dealt with that's been the case.
