Which fork kit to order?
Hi,
I have a '96 Sportster (25k mi) that has been leaking oil from one of its fork seals. I will attempt to rebuild it, but I don't know which kit to order. I have found three types on ebay:
1) For around $20, has the seals, rings, the 6mm Allen, and its copper washers, and clips, but no copper bushings.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/FORK-SEAL-RE...5c1cac&vxp=mtr
2) For around $35, has the seals, rings, clips and copper bushings, but no 6mm Allen and its copper washers.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/39mm-Fork-Se...323def&vxp=mtr
3) For around $60, has the seals, rings, clips, copper bushings, 6mm Allen and copper washers ... basically the two previous kits combined.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Drag-Special...8cbd8f&vxp=mtr
Do I need to replace the copper bushings? Do I need to replace the 6mm Allen and washers?
I will get the ring tool, and I have all other tools and I am mechanically inclined, I just don't want to spend money on parts I actually don't need.
Thanks
merope

Here`s my suggestion: avoid no name fork seals.
Get oem parts and do the job once.
I always replace the bushings when I disassemble forks.
Consider new springs if the ones you have are original (they have been supporting the front of the bike for a long time now...) a set of progressive springs will make it feel like a new bike.
