Has the type of oil used in the new 2014 water cooled engines any different from the previous year air cooled engines. I haven't read anything stating any changes. I know certain oils are specifically designed for air cool engines. Just wondering.
Not even the entire head in liquid cooled. It is meant only to allow HD to work around the exhaust standards and it does that perfectly. It has no effect what so ever on the oil .
I have been and talked to an engineer at H.D. last year about the water cooled heads. It absolutely has nothing to do with emissions. It's all about performance at high temperatures. Contrary to popular belief, conventional oil, changed every 2,000 to 3,000 miles is best for any roller bearing air cooled Harley engine. Synthetic is great for water cooled, plain bearing engines such as the V-Rod or your car.
