Default Trike engine upgrade opinion

I have a 2010 ultra trike and i am trying to decide what to do with the engine to gain some torque, it has 103 in it currently. i have looked into both upgrading to a 110 or just upgrading the current 103 with heads, pistons, 255 cams, etc. Does anyone have some ideas for me to gain a good amount of hp without spending a pile of money.

The first thing I suggest is changing out the final transmission sprocket to the 30 tooth as used in the 2011 TG. The 09 and 10's have a 32 tooth and by switching to the 30 tooth gives you a LOT more low end torque. Very noticeable at take-off. If that's not enough, then others have gone to the Woods cams, either the TW555 or the TW6-6. Personally I switched to the 6-6 (i did this before the 555 was available). They also provide a lot more low end torque.

Who did you have do your work? I have been working with Crow River in Delano but honestly I don't feel like they have a lot of knowledge in their service dept.

I bought from St Paul, had exhaust and cam done at Faribault (a lot better labor rate and I feel easier to work with) and went back to St Paul for the 30 tooth upgrade.

Just for what it is worth. Changing the gearing DOES NOT increase the torque. It feels like it because the gearing is lower. You can only increase torque with engine mods.

Change og gearing would help with takeing off, and pulling hills. In your case, with the 103, better heads and cams would increase the torque.

If it was me, I would change gearing first to see if I got the results I wanted. Then if I wanted more I would do the heads and cams.

The aftermarket pipes, fuel motto and others without the cat will get you some extra torque, especially if you go with the tripple nickle cams and tune! That along with the 30T upgrade will put a smile on your face and you may not have to get into the heads and jugs!
