Cool Trailer hitch installed - 2014 FLHTK

This morning, I went to Herndon, VA and met Dale Coyner, the owner of Open Road Outfitters.

He wanted to make a video of the install of the hitch and wiring install, and that meant I got the install for no charge and I didn't have to install it myself. I was ready to do the install but, hey, free is good.

Anyway, the total time for the install of the hitch and wiring was less than two hours. That includes the setup and movement of the video camera and some still photos. I'll definitely let you know when the video is posted.

The pictures are just a few that were taken but they show the parts of the hitch, the upper mount points, the wiring harness, a view from below the hitch and the finished product.

I can't wait to get the Legend back on the road (as long as the weather gods smile on me).

Nice. Does towing a trailer affect the warranty?

Technically, the MoCo could deny warranty coverage since the owner's manual says you should not pull a trailer. They would have to prove that the trailer caused the problem.

In the real world, not so much. I had a hitch and pulled a trailer for almost 11 years (over 61k miles) with my 2003 Fatboy. It was serviced many (too many!!) times at the dealer and they never said a thing.

Thanks for posting!!!!
That is a simple design and easy intallation.
I've had Hitchdoc hitch's on my last couple bikes.
When HD upgrades the RG I will need another hitch.

Here is the link to the product.

Is there any reason this won't work on a 2014 Street Glide Special? I see their website doesn't list it.

The bottom of the fender has different, umm, ornamentation, so the SGS would not be a fit. Look at the pictures of my bike above. The SGS has the special taillight that hangs a bit lower and it's a no go. The hitch manufacturer would need to make some changes for it. Check with Dale to see if anything is in the works.

Ya, that's right. The Street Glide has the lighted tri bar on the bottom.

MCHITCH.com has hitches for both styles of rear ends. It appears to be their product in the above photos. I've had them on my last 3 Bikes, and will be installing one on my new '14 Ltd as well.
