Default Speedo needle went to zero while riding.

Speedo went 0 and I lost the gear indicator but not the RPM in the digital display. I let off the throttle and down shifted. Bike acted fine. About a mile later the engine light popped on. I started to stop and the Speedo came back to life. The gear showed up and the engine light went off. I drove back home about 20 miles with no issues. Any ideas about what happened?

Check both end connections of the battery cables. Very like there is a loose connection. Had that happen on two new bikes over the years. One was a loose ground connection on an 08 Buell Ulysses and the other was a loose positive connection on the starter post on a 10 Superglide.

Both times it caused the things that you described.

It was a loose connection and a sensor that went bad. Thomas at Man O War Harley showed me where the sensor was and tightened everything at no charge. Thanks everyone.
