Tuner for 2001 Ultra
Hello all,
I have a stock 2001 Ultra classic and I removed the crossover on the stock exhaust and changed out the mufflers to Holley 4inch tapered megaphones with adjustable baffles (torque or horsepower) I am going to be switching out the stock breather and need to know what tuner works with a 2001 ultra since I don't have O2 sensors. I know nothing about tuners but have someone that will hook it up and map it and teach me and such but I need to know what my choices are as far as what will work.
Any help is appreciated.
Thanks
Tim

I have used a PCIII, a DFO, Cobra FI2000R Auto tune, SERT, and now have an S&S VFI ECM that is tuneable and can add O2 sensors for Autotune. Take your pick, they all worked well on my 01 Ultra. I like the VFI as I can add the 02 bungs and run it without constantly going for a dyno tune everytime I make a small change.

You do not have to have a download to the ECM when using a PCIII. The tuner will make changes to the electronic signals sent to the EFI system after the ECM pulses them out. There are canned maps on the DynoJet website that you can use as a starting point. A dynotune will really dial it in, but it is not necessary. The PCIII is not married to the bike. You can buy a used one, and remap it.

01 touring should be a Merelli system, your tuner options are limited. The PCIII or the Direct Link. The PCIII is "piggyback" and won't marry to your bike, you can remove it and use it on another bike. The Direct Link by Techno Research will marry to your ECM but is a lot better of a tuning tool.
I'm pretty positive there is no autotune option for a PCIII, there is for the PC-5 but I don't believe they have one available for a MM bike like yours, if they did it would be sold separately and you would either need an exhaust with o2 bungs or you would need to weld o2 bungs into the exhaust you have.
