I have a 2011 FLHX with a 103", Vance and Hines 2-1, Fuel Moto stage 1 breather, and a PCV. I've owned the bike since new, and all the modifications have been on the bike since 2012 (about 28,000 miles).

About a 3 weeks ago, I was leaving my house and at the first stop sign, the bike stalled as I was pulling away. Restarted and ran fine for about a week. Then, the exact same thing again.

Now, it's cutting out more severely and more often. As I accelerate from a stop, usually within a mile of my starting point, the bike sputters and cuts out. It only does it for about 10-15 seconds, then runs fine.

Yesterday and today (once each day), while stopped at a light, the idle suddenly kicks up to 1500 rpm and stays there. Otherwise runs fine.

No engine light. Plugs seem fine visually. I ride everyday, and the problem is becoming more frequent. It's always within a mile of my starting point, but warming the bike up for a longer time doesn't seem to make a difference. Maybe coincidence, but this started about a week after a 100 mile ride in intermittent heavy rain.

Help!?!?

 

Unplug the power commander and see if the problem persists.

 

Thank you for the suggestion. I figured it out. In case anyone else has similar symptoms. It appears to have been the engine temperature sensor. I replaced it and just made a 1000 mile trip this weekend with no problems.
